Safety upgrade for Petagas pedestrian bridge after fatal train accident

KOTA KINABALU: The community in Petagas can look forward to an upgraded pedestrian bridge, which is expected to significantly improve safety.

The bridge is near the site of Tuesday's (Nov 19) tragic accident in Kampung Muhibbah, where a 41-year-old woman lost her life while her 11-year-old son was seriously injured while crossing the railway tracks.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is also state Works Minister, informed the media about the upgrade during a visit to the victims' family on Friday (Nov 22).

He added that plans for the bridge, initiated last year, have now been given priority.

“This project involves upgrading the existing structure.

"In the recently approved state budget for 2025, funding provisions have been allocated for the bridge. I have asked that priority be given to completing this project at the earliest opportunity,” he said.
