JB man gets two months jail for trespassing, damaging property of Johor Ruler


BATU PAHAT: A Magistrate's Court here has sentenced a assistant goat and sheep herder to two months imprisonment for trespassing and damaging property belonging to the Johor Ruler in September this year.

Magistrate Suhaila Shafi'uddin slapped the sentence on 20-year-old Muhammad Qamarulazim Samad here on Thursday (Nov 21) after reviewing his case.

He was initially charged for the offence on Oct 27 where he pleaded guilty in front of Magistrate Suhaila who then set Nov 21 for mention of the social report, facts of the case and sentencing.

Qamarulazim was charged with entering a home where the Johor Sultan stores valuables and vandalising a house key at Public Works Department 100 along Jalan Kluang here between 11pm on Sept 23 and 9.30am on Sept 24.

The accused was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 14 years' jail and may include a fine or caning for repeat offences.

Suhaila then sentenced Qamarulazim to two months imprisonment from the date of his arrest, which was on Sept 24.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip prosecuted the case while lawyer Siti Farha Garieb represented the accused.
