Drunk driver in fatal Klang crash remanded for four days


KLANG: The magistrate's court has granted police a four-day remand order to detain a man who caused the death of a motorcyclist on Sunday (March 29).

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Lim Jit Huey said the remand order for the man, who is in his 20s, was granted by magistrate Siti Zubaidah Mahat.

He added the suspect will be detained until April 2 for police to carry out investigations.

"The case is being investigated under Section 44 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," said ACP Lim when contacted on Monday (March 30).

The man, who tested positive for alcohol and drugs, had entered the opposite direction in his Honda City and rammed the motorcycle.

Investigations showed that the suspect was driving at high speed along Jalan Raya Barat.

He tried to overtake several other cars but crashed into a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

The tragedy occurred at Jalan Raya Barat near here at about 11.40am.

The motorcyclist, in his 30s, died at the scene.

The victim, who died on the spot, spun a few times in the air and landed on the roof of another car that was plying the road.

A video of the incident went viral, showing the suspect's car travelling on the opposite side of the road before ramming into a motorcycle.

The impact flung the motorcyclist violently off his machine before he landed on another car.
