Taiping Lake Gardens not badly hit by hot weather, paddle boats still operating

TAIPING: The ongoing hot weather has not caused a significant drop in water levels at Taiping Lake Gardens, says municipal council president Mohamed Akmal Dahlan.

He said that while there has been a slight decrease, rainfall on Sunday (March 30) helped stabilise the situation.

"The dry weather is difficult to predict, but we are beginning to see a pattern.

"We hope such conditions will not occur in the near future," he told reporters after the Taiping Clock Tower Interior launching ceremony here on Monday (March 30).

"However, since this has happened before and cannot be prevented, water levels may recede, making the Lake Gardens less visually appealing as the lakebed becomes visible.

"I hope... if it does, it will only be temporary as is usually the case," he said.

Akmal added that the current drop in water levels is not as severe as in previous instances.

"It is not as dry as before. The paddle boats can still operate.

"If it becomes too dry, they will not be able to move. There has been some reduction (in water level), but yesterday’s rain helped," he said.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department reported on Friday that the entire state of Perlis, four districts in Kedah, and one district in Perak recorded a Level Two heatwave, while 13 other areas in Peninsular Malaysia were placed under Level One (hot weather) alert.
