Malaysia to host 21 international concerts next year, says Comms Ministry

PETALING JAYA: A total of 21 concerts featuring international artists are expected to be held in Malaysia next year, according to the Communication Ministry.

The ministry said this projection is based on the pre-application record provided by organisers as of Oct 31.

The 21 concerts are expected to attract 160,500 attendees.

As a result, the ministry anticipates an economic impact of RM80.25mil through various sectors including hotels, rentals, transport, and food.

“These numbers are expected to increase as applications can be submitted 14 days before the concert is held,” the ministry stated in a parliamentary written reply dated Nov 7.

The ministry expressed its commitment to supporting concerts involving international artists in Malaysia through the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal).

This statement was in response to a question by Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) regarding the list of concerts planned for 2025 and their economic impact.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said on Nov 5 that concerts and non-sporting events at major venues like Bukit Jalil National Stadium and Axiata Arena are generating significantly more income than traditional sporting events.

Yeoh highlighted how this trend emphasises the growing importance of diversifying event offerings to maximise the utilisation and profitability of national sports facilities.
