No injuries reported due to Pantai Miami landslide

GEORGE TOWN: No one was injured during a landslide that occurred near Pantai Miami on Tuesday (Oct 29).

State infrastructure committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the incident, which happened at about 6.30pm, resulted in the road being covered with soil, boulders, and trees behind private property.

"Luckily, no one was injured during the landslide," he said.

He added that the landslide was caused mainly by rainfall and not by structural failure.

The Tanjung Bungah assemblyman said swift action has been taken by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) by issuing a Notice to Remove Disturbance under Section 82 of the Local Government Act 1976 to the landowner on Wednesday (Oct 30).

Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid posted several photos of the landslide on her Facebook page on Wednesday after visiting the site.

"Upon hearing of the landslide near Pantai Miami, officers from my service centre and the Tanjung Bunga assemblyman service centre acted swiftly to respond, ensuring immediate safety and assistance for affected areas.

"I had just returned to Penang from Parliament and joined our teams on-site to assess the situation firsthand," she said.

She also extended her thanks to MBPP, the Public Works Department (JKR), the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), and the Batu Ferringhi police for their prompt action and professionalism in managing the incident.

She praised the coordinated efforts as invaluable in safeguarding the community and said that her team will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
