Deputy IGP puzzled by fake WhatsApp groups impersonating him


PETALING JAYA: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (pic) is perplexed by individuals creating social media groups and impersonating him.

Concerned about people being misled, Ayob clarified that he is not involved in such activities.

"I don't have many numbers, just one, and I don’t have a second wife," he stated.

"I am unsure why someone would pretend to be me, but I am confident the public will not be fooled."

He added, "I have other duties and no time to create a WhatsApp group," he told reporters at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters on Tuesday (Oct 29).

Many friends have contacted Ayob about a supposed new number, seeking verification.

Ayob confirmed that a police report has been filed to open investigation papers.

"God willing, we will trace the individuals involved," he said.

It was previously reported that the police are investigating a person pretending to be 'Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin' on WhatsApp, inviting others to join the group.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa clarified that Ayob never operated any special WhatsApp group.

He warned that the actions of these impersonators could confuse the public and potentially damage the image of the police force.
