PETALING JAYA: Over RM2bil will go towards repairing and maintaining schools nationwide, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
RM1bil will be specifically for maintaining all types of schools, especially with dilapidated classrooms.
This includes national schools, Chinese schools, Tamil schools, religious schools, schools in military camps and special education schools, Anwar said when announcing Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 18).
RM1bil will be for upgrading dilapidated infrastructure in 543 schools, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, he added.
“A total of 44 new schools will (also) be built next year,” said Anwar, who is also Finance Minister.
