Seven cops under probe for extortion, molestation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) will conduct a disciplinary investigation after a senior police officer and six personnel were accused of extorting and molesting a woman.

JIPS director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad confirmed this when contacted yesterday. It was earlier reported that a senior police officer with the rank of Asst Supt along with six personnel were detained for alleged extortion and molestation of a woman on Oct 1.

The woman claimed she was extorted and molested by a group of individuals in a raid on a condominium unit in Cheras.

The victim claimed that the policemen demanded RM150,000 from her before reducing it to RM90,000 after they discovered drugs in her possession. She was allegedly freed after a local man paid RM10,000 and was required to make further instalments. The case went viral on social media.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa had said the 22-year-old victim lodged a report on the matter on Oct 7.

“Previously, three local men were detained in the case but were released on police bail after being remanded for three days.

“Further investigation led to the arrests of seven policemen, including the ASP, aged between 30 and 50,” he added.
