Doctor’s molestation case set for mention on Jan 5 in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: The Magistrate's Court here has set Jan 5 next year for the mention of a case involving a doctor charged with two counts of molestation and indecent assault against a foreign woman last February.

Magistrate Nur Fadrina Zulkhairi fixed the date during proceedings when the case was mentioned on Thursday (Dec 11). The new date is to allow the prosecution team to complete the documentation and submit it to the court.

Dr Goon Hoong Tatt, 43, from Penang Hospital, was charged on Oct 17 with two counts of intending to insult the modesty of the foreign woman by ordering her to undress and instructing her to stand and run around naked. The alleged offences were committed in the clinical examination room of the Penang Hospital Forensic Department between 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Feb 20.

The charges are under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine or both, upon conviction.

Dr Goon was represented by lawyer N. Tishalini, while deputy public prosecutor Lau Shavin appeared for the prosecution.

The accused has another case mention on Dec 17 on two counts of molestation and indecent assault involving another foreign woman.

On Oct 17, he was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code with using criminal force against the woman with intent to outrage her modesty by touching her breast.

The offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping or any two of these punishments, upon conviction.

He was alleged to have committed these offences on the same day and at the same place, between 9.15pm and 9.30pm.
