Babysitter detained to assist probe into baby's death

TASEK GELUGOR: Police have detained a babysitter to assist in investigations into the death of a 10-month-old baby boy who was reported to have died while in the woman’s care here on Monday (Oct 19).

Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abdul Rahman said the woman was detained following the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

"Investigations are ongoing, and we are waiting for the post-mortem report to find out the actual cause of the baby’s death,” he said in a statement on Monday night.

It is understood that the baby’s mother sent him to the babysitter early Monday morning.

The 25-year-old babysitter allegedly found the baby weak and lethargic at about 9.50am and took him to a nearby clinic.

The baby is believed to have died before arriving at the clinic. Preliminary physical examinations reportedly found no visible bruising on his body. - Bernama
