Selangor Ruler calls for swift action to rehabilitate GISB kids

PETALING JAYA: Urgent action must be taken to address the rehabilitation of the children linked to the Global Ikhwan Services and Businesses Holdings (GISB), says Selangor Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (pic).

In a statement issued yesterday, Sultan Sharafuddin directed the special task force established by the state government to prepare a comprehensive working paper outlining the most effective strategies for reintegrating the children rescued from GISB charity homes into society.

The Selangor Ruler expressed hope that the matter would be addressed promptly, as it concerns the future of the children.

“The committee will report directly to the Sultan himself,” the statement read.

The decree was issued following a meeting between His Royal Highness and Selangor Islamic affairs and innovation development committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah at Istana Bukit Kayangan, Shah Alam.

Also present was Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) member Datuk Salehuddin Saidin.

Mohammad Fahmi and women development and social welfare committee chairman Anfaal Saari said, in a joint statement, the establishment of the task force follows the decision made by the state executive council on Oct 2.

The task force aims to implement effective rehabilitation strategies encompassing faith-related issues, welfare, health and mental-physical development, ensuring these children can be reintegrated into society even after the six-month programme.

In early September, the police launched Ops Global, raiding charity homes across Peninsular Malaysia linked to GISB following allegations of child exploitation and religious misconduct.

As a result of these raids, 572 victims were rescued, and 359 GISB followers, including members of the organisation, were arrested.
