ISKANDAR PUTERI: Three Bangladeshi nationals are in critical condition after a major fire hit four warehouses at SiLC industrial park here.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Muhammad Al Mustakin Abdul Hady said the department received a distress call about the fire incident at around 11.34am on Thursday (Oct 10) morning.
“We deployed 39 firemen from six fire stations to the scene immediately including three Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles, one Compact Fire Rescue Tender (CFRT) vehicle, one foam tender vehicle, a 20,000-litre tanker, and two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS).
“The fire initially started at a warehouse logistics company and then spread to three more warehouses, located close to one another. One of the warehouses stored chemical products such as thinners and solvents and this caused the fire to spread faster,” he told media at the scene on Thursday evening (Oct 10).
He added that during the fire, there were nine foreign workers at the premises, three of which sustained 30% first-degree burns.

Muhammad Al Mustakin said that those injured had been rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Baru for immediate medical treatment.
“We had to use foam to control the fire as we are dealing with chemical products. Firemen were able to control the fire at around 1.34pm and efforts are ongoing to put it out completely.
“The fire also caused serious damages to the structures of the four premises as well as vehicles parked near the warehouses,” he added.
He also said that once the fire was extinguished, the department’s forensic unit would enter the premises to investigate the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said that those injured were between the ages of 29 and 40 years.
“They are currently being treated at the HSA red zone due to the severe injuries they sustained during the incident,” he said adding that the six other foreign workers did not sustain any injuries.
