MELAKA: Melaka appears poised for a state election with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh expected to announce the dissolution of its 28-seat legislative assembly on Tuesday (Sept 22).
The much-anticipated announcement is expected around 3pm, shortly after the state executive council meeting at noon and a post-exco meeting at 2pm.
According to a source, Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam has signed the proclamation to dissolve the assembly.
However, the state government has not officially confirmed this.
Signs of an imminent dissolution emerged when the weekly exco meeting, usually held on Wednesdays, was brought forward to today.
All 21 Barisan Nasional assemblymen were also instructed in invitations circulated on Monday (Sept 21) night to be at Seri Negeri at 2.30pm today.
"The Chief Minister’s Office is expected to invite the media to Seri Negeri for Ab Rauf’s press conference later in the afternoon," the source said.
The source added that the dissolution was expected to take effect on Wednesday (Sept 23), triggering the process for the Melaka polls.
The current state government’s mandate is due to expire on Dec 27.
