KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's family wants to know why the RM50mil fine was accepted if hurdles to his house arrest remained, says his daughter Nooryana Najwa Najib.
Nooryana, known as Yana, said the family had followed the set process, including paying the fine with donated funds.
"If there were other conditions, why weren't we told from the start? And if there are still obstacles, why accept the payment today?" she said in a video recorded at the family residence in Taman Duta on Friday (Nov 6).
"Today should have been a happy day for our family. We were ready to welcome Daddy home. But it seems tonight is not meant for us yet," she said.
Nooryana said that after Umno paid the fine, the family received a court order for Najib's release to serve house arrest, which was then taken to Kajang Prison.
She had waited outside the court while the payment was settled.
"We were then told the prison would bring Dad home after receiving the court order. At first we were told it was 5pm. Then it changed to 8.30pm. So we waited," she said.
She claimed, however, that the family learned at about 2pm that the Home Ministry was trying to delay his release.
The family stayed hopeful, she said, believing the court order was enough for the process to go ahead, until the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) announced the deferment pending clarification of the conditional pardon.
Nooryana said she left the legal questions to the lawyers but was deeply disappointed as a daughter.
Nooryana also thanked contributors to the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund.
