PETALING JAYA: Malaysians affected by the landslides and floods following the highest rainfall ever recorded in Nepal have been safely evacuated to Kathmandu.
Wisma Putra said it was closely monitoring the unprecedented heavy rain that has been falling in several districts in Nepal, including Kathmandu, since Sept 26.

"The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority of Nepal has announced that the rainfall is the highest ever recorded in Nepal.
"This disaster has claimed the lives of at least 200 local citizens while 26 others are still missing. Meanwhile, Malaysian tourists affected by the landslides and flood have been safely evacuated to Kathmandu
"The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology of Nepal has forecast that rain will continue until Friday (Oct 4). All Malaysians in Nepal are advised to stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance by the local authorities," it said in a statement here on Tuesday (Oct 1).
Wisma Putra also urged Malaysians who have yet to register with the embassy to do so immediately at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.
It also advised Malaysians who intended to visit Kathmandu to postpone their journey until conditions improve.
"As all access to outside Kathmandu Valley are damaged and inaccessible following the landslides and floods," it said.

It was reported that on Monday, the chargé d'affaires at the embassy, Mohd Firdaus Azman, had said the continuous rain since Sept 26 caused many highways and roads throughout the country to be flooded and disconnected.
"If they arrive in Kathmandu, they will be stranded. In addition, the water level is still high and bridges connecting Kathmandu are completely destroyed," he said.
