Giant kites fill the sky of Klebang on Malaysia Day

MELAKA: Some 100 giant kites filled the sky of Klebang here on Malaysia Day.

The colourful kites, which came in various shapes, were flown at the International Kite Festival 2024.

Melaka's Friends of Kite Association president Allex Seah Shoo Chin said 85 participants including kite enthusiasts from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and France joined the event on Monday (Sept 16).

"There are kites in animal shapes like tigers, cats, crocodiles and birds, and superheroes such as Batman, Superman and Spiderman.

"Participants also flew kites resembling Jalur Gemilang to mark the Malaysia Day celebration," said Seah, who is also the state entrepreneur, cooperative development and consumer affairs committee chairman.

He said the festival, from Sept 14 to 16, was among programmes to attract more tourists to this Historic state.

"This kite festival also serves as a platform for the locals to revel in the spectacle of these giant kites on Malaysia Day," he added.

Malaysian Kite Council vice-president Mohd Nazri Ismail said the festival was timely as it brought together kite lovers from all over the country.

He hoped the festival could be continued and organised on a larger scale next year to attract more visitors and participants.

The International Kite Festival 2024 was previously held in Limbongan here before the concept was improvised and moved to Klebang.
