SHANGHAI: The fifth World Presidents’ Conference will take place in Malaysia to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said this was decided during a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi by a delegation led by Liu Jiang, chairman of the organising committee.
Dr Wee, who also attended the meeting, briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on preparations for the conference.
“In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, the organising committee has decided to hold the conference in Kuala Lumpur.
“This will be the first time the conference is being held overseas,” he added.
MCA and the Malaysia-China Friendship Association will co-host the event, which will be held at Wisma MCA on Dec 2 and 3.
Dr Wee said the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the great significance of the milestone in the diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China, and confirmed that he would personally attend the conference to meet and exchange views with business association leaders from around the world.
Ahmad Zahid also gave his assurance that various government departments would provide additional support for the conference.
“The Deputy Prime Minister was also honoured to accept the invitation to serve as an adviser or patron for the conference,” Dr Wee said.
“He welcomes leaders of social organisations and entrepreneurs from around the world to visit Malaysia to gain a deeper understanding of its development potential.”
He added that Ahmad Zahid had also accepted the invitation to deliver a keynote address.
The fifth World Presidents’ Conference is expected to see a gathering of hundreds of business association leaders, entrepreneurs, CEOs and senior executives from investment firms across the world in Kuala Lumpur.
