Free parking in areas under four local authorities from Sept 14 – 20, says Melaka CM

MELAKA: The Melaka government is offering free parking for tourists and locals, says Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

The Melaka Chief Minister said the initiative covers 34,764 parking bays across four local councils from Saturday (Sept 14) until Sept 20.

"The free parking offer includes 14,876 parking bays under the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB); 5,000 under the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG); 3,500 under the Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) and 11,388 under the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ)," he said in a statement on Friday (Sept 13).

He said the free parking initiative is in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration and Maulidur Rasul celebrations as well as the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) campaign.

"This offer (free parking) is a symbolic manifestation of the state government's appreciation to tourists and visitors, with Melaka recording over 8.7 million tourist and visitor arrivals from January to July this year," he added.

Ab Rauf also noted that the state government continues to welcome tourists to the state and hopes that this free parking initiative will help to drive economic growth in the state’s tourism sector in line with TMM2024.
