KUALA LUMPUR: A vegetable trader pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here on Monday (Sept 9) to two charges of injuring a man with a cleaver and possessing the weapon without lawful permission five days ago.
Wan Ken Fei, 28, was accused of causing grievous harm to Muhammad Aidiel Zulhilmi Mohammad Yusri, 24, by using a cleaver as a weapon that could have resulted in death, at a unit in the People's Housing Programme (PPR) in Pekan Kepong, Sentul, at 5.30pm on Sept 4.
The charge was brought under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine, or whipping, if convicted.
He was also charged with possessing the cleaver, estimated to be 32cm long, without lawful permission at the same place, time, and date, under Section 6 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which provides for a minimum of five years and a maximum of 10 years’ imprisonment, with whipping, if found guilty.
Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Ikhwan Mohd Nasir did not offer any bail, citing that the offence was non-bailable.
However, lawyer Mohamad Zaidi Othman, representing the accused, requested the court to exercise discretion in granting bail, arguing that his client was caring for his ill parents.
Judge Dr Azrol Abdullah denied the bail request and set Oct 11 for mention.
On Sept 5, Bernama reported that a man received 35 stitches on his head and left hand after being beaten and slashed during an altercation at the Pekan Kepong PPR.
Previously, several video clips went viral showing a scuffle and fight between the two individuals involved, believed to be over a double parking issue. – Bernama
