Lorry attendant killed in crash on NSE near Kluang

KLUANG: A 30-year-old lorry attendant was killed and two other people were injured after one lorry crashed into the back of another at KM69 northbound on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident occurred at 6.20pm on Thursday (Aug 22).

“Initial investigation revealed that both vehicles were heading towards Kuala Lumpur.

"One lorry broke down and had stopped on the emergency lane on the left side of the road.

"PLUS Malaysia Berhad workers also placed traffic cones behind the vehicle.

“However, the driver of the other lorry lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the back of the stalled lorry,” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 23).

The crash caused the attendant of the second vehicle, an Indian national, to sustain serious head and body injuries, he said, adding that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The drivers of both lorries experienced chest pains and were taken to Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom for treatment,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
