Umno General Assembly 2024 limited to party members, Barisan reps

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno General Assembly 2024, to be held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from Aug 21 to 24, will only involve the party’s big family and representatives from Barisan Nasional component parties.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the matter had been agreed upon at the unity government leadership council level.

"We have discussed at the Unity Government Leadership Council that for our second year together in the unity government, the general assembly will be limited to Umno members, as we had invited other parties in the first year. God willing, we might extend invitations again before the election.

"This time, we want to provide as much space as possible for Umno’s big family to discuss matters internally. Therefore, no other party leaders will be present this time,” he told a press conference at Menara Dato Onn on Wednesday (Aug 14).

Asyraf Wajdi further said that this year’s assembly would feature the TVET Exploration programme, which includes career and educational opportunities in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), reflecting Umno’s commitment to championing the national TVET agenda.

"This is in line with Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president’s (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) call to promote TVET policy.

"We will have talk shows and free consultations on training opportunities available to the community and career prospects offered, as these hold significant value in economic terms,” he added.

Asyraf Wajdi also noted that 6,433 delegates are expected to attend this year’s assembly, with debates focusing on issues related to the rakyat, Malays and Bumiputera agenda.

Regarding political cooperation for the Sabah State Election, he said that it would not be debated as it involves political strategy.- Bernama
