Three enforcement officers remanded in RM120,000 bribery case

KOTA KINABALU: The magistrate's court here has ordered a five-day remand for three government department enforcement officers to facilitate the investigation of a RM120,000 bribery case.

The remand order until Aug 16 was issued by Magistrate Aslianlydia Asneh on Sunday (Aug 11), following an application by the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

These arrests are linked to a previous case involving another enforcement officer suspected of soliciting bribes to protect smuggling activities and release detained goods.

The trio, aged between 30 and 40, were picked up by the graft busters between 4pm and 11pm on Saturday (Aug 10) during an operation in Keningau.

“Initial investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly committed the offence earlier this month," a source revealed.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
