MELAKA: A 50-year-old government department director and his deputy are among four individuals arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving bribes close to RM177,000 as inducements for approvals of payments relating to contract works.

The four arrested are aged between 34 and 60 years, including a woman.

The other two individuals are believed to be part of the company awarded the contracts.

Melaka MACC arrested all four when they appeared at the graft buster's state headquarters in Alai at 5pm on Saturday (Aug 10) to have their statements recorded.

All four were produced at the magistrate's court on Sunday (Aug 11) to be remanded.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest.

He said all four are being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
