Penang's scenic Titi Kerawang waterfall now a mere trickle

BALIK PULAU: Once a favourite spot for picnickers and nature lovers in Penang, the waterfall at Titi Kerawang on the island has almost dried up.

This scenic location, which used to have water gushing from the hills, attracted many visitors on weekends and public holidays.

A recent visit to the site revealed that, although water still flows, it is not as abundant as before.

Teluk Bahang resident Mohd Mazli Malek, 45, said he remembers the waterfall's beauty from his childhood.

"The water was cool and many people came to take a dip every week... the place was a popular spot," he said.

He added that the waterfall began slowing when Teluk Bahang Dam was completed in 1999.

The diminished flow at the natural waterfall has also been attributed to low rainfall during the south-west monsoon.
