Malaysia to celebrate World Rural Development Day first time tomorrow

KUANTAN: Malaysia will celebrate World Rural Development Day for the first time at Tun Abdul Razak Stadium in Jengka, near Maran, on Monday (July 6).

The celebration, themed "Toward Vibrant, Prosperous and Happy Rural Communities" is organised in recognition of the groups driving national development and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is scheduled to officiate the celebration.

The historic celebration will feature various activities, including the Rural Aspiration Award, Felda Plan Excellence Award, Launch of My Rural Insight Journal and announcement of Felcra Bhd Interim Distributable Profit Distribution 1/2026.

World Rural Development Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept 6 2024, setting July 6 as the annual celebration date in conjunction with the establishment of the Centre on Integrated Development for Asia and the Pacific.

The celebration was held for the first time globally on July 6 2025, while Malaysia became one of the member countries to implement the official celebration starting in 2026. – Bernama
