KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government must fix existing flaws in the Sales and Service Tax (SST) without passing additional financial burdens onto consumers or small businesses, says Parti Warisan vice president Datuk Junz Wong.
“These problems should be fixed, but the fix must not make life more expensive for ordinary people,” the Tanjung Aru assemblyman said in a statement on Sunday (Sept 6).
Wong urged Putrajaya on Sunday to resolve SST issues like tax cascading and unrecoverable input costs, but warned against hastily reintroducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or creating an "SST-GST hybrid."
Citing a Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers survey where 61% of manufacturers backed GST for its input-tax credits, Wong stressed that corporate relief cannot come at the expense of household living costs—particularly in Sabah, where high logistics expenses already inflate prices.
He demanded full public disclosure of all financial data, tax rates, exemptions, and refund mechanisms before any major tax system overhaul is executed.
