IPOH: A 56-year-old cowherd jumped into a river to escape being shot near his farm in Chemor, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to a police report sighted by The Star, the incident occurred at about 10pm on Sunday (Oct 18).
The man was walking to the outdoor toilet when he heard a motorcycle.
He then heard shots, apparently fired at his car, before running and jumping into a nearby river while shouting for help.
He lodged a report at the Chemor police station at around 5am on Monday (Oct 19).
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin told a press conference on Friday (Oct 23) that a local man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said the suspect was detained for two days and released on police bail.
"We are still investigating further to establish the motive.
"Based on our checks, the victim has no criminal record, and we are also checking if he had any disputes that could have led to the shooting," he said.
When contacted, the cowherd's 33-year-old son said his father received a call from an acquaintance threatening to shoot him at 4.20pm on Sunday.
"The acquaintance is a friend of my uncle, who had a fight with my father about two weeks ago," he said.
"We have no issues with the acquaintance and are unsure why he got involved.
"My father is restless and on edge after the incident."
