KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has allocated RM1.201bil for school repairs and upgrades nationwide, focusing on urgent safety repairs, facility maintenance, and classroom infrastructure.
Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek stated that RM946mil had been channelled for the maintenance of educational institutions as of September this year.
She added that RM150mil was allocated to refurbish and upgrade teachers’ rooms in 2026, while another RM105mil has been set aside to improve Year One classrooms next year.
Fadhlina said that the ministry prioritises school safety, facility upkeep, and smooth operations.
She said that rural and interior schools, particularly those facing accessibility issues, ageing infrastructure, and maintenance challenges, remain a priority.
She was responding in a written parliamentary reply on Thursday (Oct 22) to Rompin MP Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah, who asked for a breakdown of allocations for dilapidated schools and inquired whether funding approvals had been expedited to mitigate safety risks in rural areas.
Highlighting regional progress, Fadhlina revealed that the government approved 11 projects worth RM107.2mil to rebuild dilapidated school buildings in Pahang between 2023 and October this year. Of these, five have been completed, four are under construction, and two remain in the pre-construction phase.
In the Rompin constituency alone, 62 schools have received a total of RM6.92mil in maintenance funding.
Among these, a rebuilding project at SMK Rompin, approved under Rolling Plan 3 of the 12th Malaysia Plan in 2023, was 99.62% complete and scheduled for completion in January next year.
Additionally, a RM934,460 upgrading project was underway at SK (LKTP) Keratong 4 under the ministry’s 2026 refurbishment programme.
