Let Negri settle its own problems, Jelebu MP tells Dewan Rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan should be allowed to resolve its own affairs, says Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

He said this after Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid interjected during the Budget 2027 debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Oct 22), asking whether the delay in appointing state executive council members would hamper the state’s development.

“Do not worry, it will be resolved. Let Negri Sembilan settle its own problems,” he briefly said.

On Sept 20, the Negri Sembilan palace announced that the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir had revoked the appointments of the state executive council members with immediate effect.

The revocation was gazetted on Sept 24, with the removals taking effect from Sept 20.

The gazette stated that the appointments had been revoked and annulled because the members had breached their pledges of allegiance to Tuanku Muhriz by agreeing to his removal as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

Meanwhile, Jalaluddin, who is also the Pertang assemblyman, called for a more integrated development framework between the federal and state governments, with each district’s infrastructure needs, catalyst projects and employment opportunities identified.

He said development should not be concentrated in certain areas while others continued to wait for benefits that might never materialise.

“Fair development does not mean every district must have projects of the same scale, but every district must be given opportunities commensurate with its potential,” he said.

He added that delays in approved projects must be investigated, particularly when construction had already begun, rather than allowing them to drag on because of red tape, overlapping procedures or weaknesses among the parties involved.

He also called for federal-state relations to evolve beyond a system in which one side sought funding, and the other provided it, towards a strategic partnership in which both shared responsibility for development outcomes.

Negri Sembilan, he said, should not merely benefit from development spilling over from neighbouring areas, but should also be allowed to strengthen its own economy, empower local talent and build an ecosystem capable of generating sustainable growth.
