PETALING JAYA: The family of a Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Seremban student who collapsed during a university endurance event in Pahang originally believed he was suffering from heatstroke before he died in the hospital.
Fadhlan Fakhry Solana, who was pursuing a Diploma in Sports and Recreation Management, passed away around 2.00pm on Saturday (Sept 5) at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) Intensive Care
Unit. He had collapsed near the finish line of the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) 2026, held at UiTM Pahang's Jengka Campus.
Speaking to Sinar Harian on Sunday (Sept 6), his father, Mohamad Fellimal Mohd Sulanah, said a UiTM officer called him at 11.00pm on Friday (Sept 4) to report that his son was weak, initially taken to Jengka Hospital, and then referred to HoSHAS for suspected heatstroke.
“My wife and I rushed from Shah Alam and arrived at 3.30am,” Mohamad Fellimal said, noting they could only view him from a distance in the red zone.
He described Fadhlan as an avid athlete in good health who had thoroughly prepared for the event. Fadhlan was a veteran of the competition, having won awards with his team in two previous editions.
The family last communicated with Fadhlan via WhatsApp at 6.55pm on Sept 4. Mohamad Fellimal recalled their last face-to-face meeting on Aug 29 during the Junior Lieutenants of Kesatria commissioning ceremony at UiTM Shah Alam.
“We took many photographs as keepsakes, never imagining those would be our last memories with him,” he said. “He had just completed his diploma and planned to pursue his degree, but this happened instead.”
