GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan Youth chief Tan Zhen Zune has resigned from all his party leadership positions, stating that the party has lost its direction and he can no longer support a political path he does not believe in.
The 30-year-old, who also serves as the national Gerakan Youth deputy secretary-general, made the surprise announcement during his speech at the Penang Gerakan delegates’ conference on Sunday (Sept 6). The announcement was made in the presence of party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau and other delegates. Tan confirmed he will submit a formal resignation letter to the party soon.
Meanwhile, Gerakan Youth secretary-general Andy Tan Hum Wei said the leadership was not informed about the resignation beforehand.
Hum Wei added that the party will urge Tan to reconsider his decision, noting that the youth chief still has a bright future within Gerakan.
