Remand extended for suspect in Albertine kidnap case


JOHOR BARU: The suspect in the kidnapping of six-year-old girl Albertine Leo Jia Hui has been remanded for another six days.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Noorfazlin Hamdan at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Noorfazlin ordered the remand period of the 31-year-old Malaysian man to be extended until Sunday, Bernama reported.The suspect was previously remanded for seven days from July 23 until yesterday to assist the investigation under Section 365 of the Penal Code, among others.

Earlier, the suspect, who was handcuffed and wearing a purple T-shirt, arrived at the court complex at 8.50am while being closely guarded by police officers.

Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar was reported to have requested the extension of the remand against the suspect to enable further investigations to be carried out.

Albertine was reported missing around 8.30pm on July 20 by her parents, who ran a business at the Bon Odori Festival in the Eco Galleria business centre, Iskandar Puteri here.

The child was found safe in a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, at 4.45am on July 23.

Police also arrested a man who was found with the victim.

It was previously reported that four suspects involved in her kidnapping were released on police bail.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan had confirmed that the remand order against the four suspects was not extended.
