Bomba retrieves 1m-long cobra from car engine compartment in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A woman turned to the Fire and Rescue Department after she was notified by a neighbour that a snake had slithered into her car’s engine compartment.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue station chief Severinus Sainkui said they were alerted to the incident at 11.21am Thursday (July 18).

“A neighbour had apparently seen the snake slithering into to the engine compartment and notified the owner.

“The owner, a woman in her 30s, immediately contacted us about the snake,” he said.

A team of eight men was rushed to the scene at the PDRM Apartment, Block F, Mile 4, in Sandakan, some 4km away from the station, arriving at the scene at 11.22am.

“They found the 1m cobra hidden in the engine compartment and caught the reptile with a snake catcher tool.

“The reptile was later released into a forest far from the housing area. No one was hurt in the incident,” he said.

He said the operation was called off at 11.34am.
