Bersatu adamant about contesting Sabah polls despite objections

KOTA KINABALU: Bersatu remains firm in its decision to contest in the Sabah election due next year under the Perikatan Nasional banner despite objections from some of its allies in the region, says Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (pic).

The Sabah Bersatu chief said the decision was reached at the latest supreme council meeting.

He said SAPP, led by Datuk Yong Teck Lee, can review its position with Perikatan if it does not agree with this.

“I have said this and if he is not happy then he can review the party’s position,” he told reporters after a Bersatu convention here on July 14.

On July 8, Yong said Perikatan, which is aligned with SAPP at the federal level, to not contest the regional election that is due by September next year.

Yong said SAPP would contest under the local coalition grouping of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) which governs Sabah.

SAPP is with the opposition Perikatan coalition at the federal level while it remains with GRS at the regional level.
