KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has acknowledged the defeat of its secretary-general Anthony Loke in Chennah in the 16th Negri Sembilan state election, says Gobind Singh Deo (pic).

The DAP national chairman said Loke lost the Chennah seat in a closely fought contest.

"Loke has served the party and the people with distinction over many years and we are certain he will continue to do so.

"We must and will undertake a thorough assessment of the outcome, listen carefully to the concerns of the people and work hard to regain their confidence and support," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 2) following the outcome of the Aug 1 polling day.

He noted that DAP has faced setbacks before and the message from the electorate is clear.

"We accept this outcome with full humility and respect the mandate that has been given by the people.

"We congratulate those who have been elected to form the next Negri Sembilan state government and hope they will govern responsibly and always place the interests of the people first," he said.

The Election Commission's official results showed Pakatan Harapan, which contested all 36 seats, won 11 with DAP taking nine and PKR the remaining two.

Barisan Nasional won 18 seats, with Umno securing 16 and MCA two, while Perikatan Nasional won seven seats, comprising four won by PAS and three by Wawasan.
