Rapid Rail hits record of over one million riders in a day

PETALING JAYA: Rapid Rail recorded over a million users across its network of LRT, MRT and monorail lines in the Klang Valley in a single day on May 29.

In a statement on Friday, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said this number was the highest ever recorded since it was set up. It also said that the number was achieved six months earlier than expected.

“(On that day) The Kelana Jaya line recorded a passenger count of 287,102 while the Ampang/Sri Petaling line saw 224,184 users.

“The monorail line recorded 61,236 users, the Kajang MRT line 274,302 and the Putrajaya MRT line 157,767,” it added.

This totalled up to 1,004,59, an increase of over 35% in users compared to the same last year, which saw 739,818 users.

Rapid Rail attributed the spike in ridership to several initiatives, including the increase in train capacity on the Kelana Jaya Line and the Kajang Line, and the opening of several new attraction locations along the rail line.

Several large-scale events held around the rail stations and the school holiday season also contributed to the increase in passenger numbers, it said.

“The goal of carrying one million passengers a day was also achieved six months earlier than expected,” it said.
