Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Land Operations Division chief-of-staff, Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Chandrasehkaran Muthu passed away Saturday morning (June 1).

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police mourn the loss of Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Land Operations Division chief of staff Senior Assistant Commissioner Datuk Chandrasekaran Muthu on Saturday (June 1).

He was 56, and was fondly known as Chandra.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun confirmed his passing but could not determine the exact time of death.

“His last message to me was this morning (Saturday) at 5.18am,” said Jauteh, who described Chandra as a dedicated and hardworking person.

Chandra, a Johorean, was found unconscious at his house at around 7am before he was rushed to the Sabah Women's and Children's Hospital in Likas.

Despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at 8.45am.

The case has been classified as sudden death, and his body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

Chandra, who served the force for three decades, came to Sabah as a probationary ASP at the Penampang police station and rose to the ranks.

During his tenure, he was also the Kota Kinabalu district police chief from 2014 to 2018.

Jauteh said Chandra's remains will be taken to the Wisma Fook Lu Siew funeral parlour here for a memorial service and final respect.

His wife and three children survive Chandra.
