SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan has claimed multiple instances of campaign material vandalism across several constituencies in Negri Sembilan.
In a statement, the state Pakatan election secretariat said party flags were burned in Palong on Sunday (July 19) night, while flagpoles in Chembong were vandalised this morning (July 20).
"Pakatan Harapan wishes to inform everyone that we reserve the right to take legal action under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act 1954 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and vandalism.
"If it is proven that election campaign materials such as posters, flags, or banners are sabotaged, damaged, or torn down by opponents, these acts constitute an offence," it said.
It added that the respective operations room election directors have already been advised to lodge reports on the matter.
The secretariat said it would, however, refrain from pointing fingers at any party for the mischief committed.
"We hope that our members and machinery will not retaliate as these wrongdoings may have been the work of those who are just out to create problems.
"Campaign in a healthy manner as the right to participate in an election is implicitly enshrined and protected under the Federal Constitution," it said, adding that candidates and their supporters should win over the hearts of the people and voters with clear policies, not through baseless politics of vandalism and hatred.
