Woman, toddler cheat death after falling tree branch knocks them off motorbike near Bukit Putus

SEREMBAN: A woman and a toddler who were riding pillion on a motorcycle suffered injuries after they were struck by a falling tree branch along Jalan Bukit Putus near here.

Both the woman and the child, believed to be her own, were thrown off the motorcycle due to the impact.

A 56-second clip of the incident, which was believed to have taken place on Tuesday (May 28) evening, has since gone viral.

The recording was captured on the rear dash cam of a car in front of the motorcycle.

A man, believed to be the woman's husband, was riding the bike with another child seated in the front.

He managed to retain control of the bike, which is believed to have been going downhill, despite the mishap.

He had just passed a car when the incident happened.

The woman and child would have suffered more serious injuries if the driver of the car had not managed to stop his vehicle on time.

Based on comments from Internet users, the woman and child suffered light injuries and sought treatment at the Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah.

Internet users, who were relieved that the woman and child escaped serious injuries, said the authorities should have cut or pruned the trees along the stretch.

"The family should also seek compensation from the authorities for failing to ensure the stretch was safe for motorists," one said.

Another claimed a motorcyclist was killed along the same stretch last year after he was struck by a branch.

The victim, she said, was only in his early 20s and was from Tanjung Ipoh.

Checks with the police showed that no report had been lodged on the incident as of Wednesday (May 29) morning.
