KKB by-election: Results expected to be known by 9pm, says EC

HULU SELANGOR: Official results for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election are expected to be released by 9pm on Saturday (May 11), says the Election Commission (EC).

“Hopefully by 9pm. We are quite fast,” said EC deputy chairman Azmi Sharom, adding that the results should be out no later than 10pm.

Azmi also said the EC is hoping for voter turnout to be at least 60%.

“The target is always 70%, but in the last state polls, it was only 67%. Voter turnout in by-elections is always lower than state elections,” he said, adding that the turnout as at 11am was at about 26%.

Azmi also said he was also informed that the election process in KKB was smooth as at press time.

“That’s very encouraging,” he added.

He also gave a reminder that party flags have to be at least 50 meters away from the polling station.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election sees a four-cornered fight between Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and an Independent.
