KKB polls: Welfare of minorities, women and children among five points in Perikatan manifesto

HULU SELANGOR: Perikatan Nasional has launched a five-point manifesto outlining efforts to uplift the Kuala Kubu Baharu constituency.

Khairul Azhari Saut, the coalition's candidate for the by-election here, outlined his manifesto based on five thrusts – development; sustainability; empowering local communities; uplifting youth and women; and ensuring the welfare of minority communities.

"I have my aspirations to bring positive change. That is why I present these five thrusts based on feedback I received from voters," he said at the launch of his manifesto here on Monday (May 6).

He also acknowledged that his manifesto was launched later than the four other candidates vying for the seat.

"Our outreach campaigns... and when we craft a manifesto, has to resonate with the people," he said.

On the Orang Asli community, Khairul Azhari pledged to ensure their villages were listed as Unesco World Heritage sites.

"The Orang Asli deserve to have their villages recognised. When this happens, infrastructure such as lights and roads will definitely improve. This is what I will fight for," he said.

During a ceramah later at Ampang Pecah, Khairul Azhari said his election manifesto was drafted only after meeting with 80% of locals in the constituency.

"There is no need to launch a manifesto early, only to fail to implement it later on.

"The manifesto is important because it is about what we are planning and propose for the people's interest," he said.

Pakatan Harapan’s Pang Sock Tao and Independent Nyau Ke Xin launched their respective manifestos on May 3 while Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainudin released her manifesto on April 28, a day after nomination day.

Polling day is on May 11, with early voting on May 7.
