Task Force on Labuan bridge must get people's view, says PBS

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government must engage with the people and various interest groups regarding the importance of building the Labuan-Menumbok bridge.

Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) division chief Datuk Peter Mak (pic) welcomed the setting up of a Special Task Force of the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) to investigate the construction.

He also said that town hall sessions must be held to gather feedback and the people's true feelings.

“We take note of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Zaliha Mustafa's announcement about setting up a Special Task Force.

"We hope that it will not overly emphasise the economic feasibility,” Mak said in a statement.

He said that similar feasibility studies have been done previously, all pointing to the bridge’s viability.

“Apart from economic considerations, the bridge project should be equally treated and assessed for its social impact,” said Mak.
