Man, 22, dies of heatstroke in Pahang

KUALA LUMPUR: The recent heatwave has claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the victim from Maran, Pahang, died of a heatstroke on Feb 2.

“We are thankful that we have not yet reached the third level of extreme heatwaves, but given that climate change and ozone layer depletion have made our country vulnerable to extreme heat, this could happen at any time.

“Hopefully we will be able to deal with it, including carrying out cloud seeding by the National Disaster Management Agency and the Malaysian Armed Forces in some areas,” he said when wrapping up the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address at the Dewan Negara yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, was responding to Senator Datuk Mohd Hisamudin Yahaya’s interjection regarding the cost of cloud seeding.
