Don't use old formulas, mindsets to govern the country, says Zaid

PETALING JAYA: The country cannot be governed using old formulas and old mindsets as nothing will change, says Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

"We need a government that works. We have a knack of appointing the wrong ministers in essential portfolios.

"Look at our Federal Territories Minister, as she wants to freeze issuing licences to spas, reflexology centres and massage parlours, where in fact she should be helping businesses in these difficult times," the former law minister said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Zaid said if there are suspicions that some of these centres are a front for immoral activities, then it was up to the enforcement authorities to check.

"Why stop issuing licences?

"On one hand, public institutions are offering certificates and diplomas in spa management business and, on the other, we are closing them down. What is going on?" he asked in his post.

Zaid said the government needs to bring in more capable ministers from other coalitions in the government.

"I urge the Prime Minister to take stock of the situation and address the weaknesses of the Cabinet, the anemic economy and the lack of understanding of our legal framework urgently," Zaid added.
