KUALA LUMPUR: Some 638 incidents containing racial elements have been reported to the police in 2023, says Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang (pic).

The National Unity Minister said Selangor recorded the highest number of incidents (170), followed by Johor (110), Perak (97) and Penang (80).

“Cases involved gangsterism, disturbances, intoxication, road accidents, criminal activity, debt collection, obscene behaviour and words, religious and racial provocation as well as dissatisfaction towards services or facilities,” he said in a written parliamentary reply on Thursday (March 7).

He was replying to a question by Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar) who asked about the number of racial incidents reported to the police and their causes.

On another matter, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said two investigation papers were opened towards Pakatan Harapan political leaders for touching on race, religion and royalty (3R) matters following the 15th General Election (GE15).

Saifuddin Nasution said both cases were investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code and Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“Both investigation papers have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.

Saifuddin Nasution was replying to a question by Datuk Ahmad Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena) who asked about the number of 3R cases opened towards Pakatan leaders post-GE15.
