Company director remanded over alleged false claims worth almost RM1mil


PUTRAJAYA: A company director has been remanded for allegedly submitting close to RM1mil in false claims for a maintenance job.

The suspect is in his 50s and was arrested when he was summoned to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at 7.30pm on Tuesday (March 5) for his statement to be recorded.

“The suspect is believed to have been involved in making false claims in 2021, for the maintenance of oil storage facilities and accommodations in Kota Belud, Sabah amounting to more than RM490,000.

“He is also believed to have made false claims for the maintenance of oil storage facilities, installation of pipes and CCTV units worth more than RM470,000 in Lahad Datu, although none of the jobs were carried out,” said a source.

A four-day remand order until March 9 was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

MACC senior director of special operations Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrest.
