Rompin air quality at unhealthy levels due to plantation fire

KUANTAN: Air quality in Rompin remained at an unhealthy level on Sunday (March 29), with the Air Pollutant Index (API) recorded at 152 due to a fire at an oil palm plantation.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System showed the API reading stayed at 152 from 9am until 5pm.

Pahang Environment Department director Zakaria Ahmad said the plantation fire contributed to the increase in air pollution.

He advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and take care of their health, especially those in high-risk groups.

Zakaria said notices had been issued to the plantation manager to control the fire and submit a report to the department.

He also reminded the public to avoid open burning, which is an offence and can result in heavy fines or imprisonment. - Bernama
