Woman discovers hidden camera in homestay bathroom during vacation with friends in Jelutong


GEORGE TOWN: What was supposed to be a pleasant holiday for a woman with her three friends became a nightmare when she discovered a hidden camera in their homestay in Jelutong.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Razlam Ab Hamid said in the incident that occurred at about 8pm on Feb 6, the 24-year-old woman found the hidden camera in a humidifier stored in the bathroom of the homestay.

"The woman took out the hidden camera and made the complaint to the homestay management before lodging a police report at Jelutong police station," he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 10).

ACP Razlam said acting on the report, police were investigating the case from all aspects.

He said the woman had checked into the homestay with three friends.

He said the initial investigation found that the camera captured no image or footage.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

The incident went viral after it was posted on the social media platform X after the woman claimed she became the victim of the hidden camera.

The posting was detected on Feb 9, and it has gained public attention.

ACP Razlam advised the public not to speculate on the matter that could compromise police investigation.
