Ex-PKR veep Surendran quits party

KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR vice-president N. Surendran has quit the party, claiming disappointment with its leadership.

The former Padang Serai MP stated his decision on X, in response to PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil, who reminded him to practise party discipline when expressing discontent.

"Fahmi, never mind party discipline. I've not been an active party member for a long time anyway.

"I asked about the reforms PKR once promised. No decent answer to that.

"There is no point in being a member of a party that no longer represents change and reform. Take this as my resignation," he wrote on Wednesday (Feb 7).

Surendran, who served as Padang Serai MP from 2013 to 2018, had criticised Pakatan Harapan leaders for being silent on the sedition probe against former Damansara MP Tony Pua.

Pua had questioned the reduction of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's sentence by the Pardons Board.

In response, Fahmi reminded Surendran to stick to party discipline.
